LCD is the abbreviation of Liquid Crystal Display in English, which refers to the liquid crystal display. There are mainly TFT, UFB, TFD, STN and other types. Its structure includes plastic ball, glass ball, frame glue, glass substrate, upper polarizer, alignment layer, liquid crystal, conductive ITO pattern, conduction point, IPO electrode and lower polarizer.

LED is the abbreviation of Light Emitting Diode, that is, light-emitting diode. It is a type of semiconductor diode that can convert electrical energy into light energy. When electrons and holes recombine, it can radiate visible light, so it can be used to make light-emitting diodes. Like ordinary diodes, light-emitting diodes are composed of a PN junction and also have unidirectional conductivity.

What the difference between LED display and LCD display?

1.The difference in principle:

At present, the mainstream LCD backlight technology on the market includes LED (Light Emitting Diode) and CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp). LCD is LCD—LCD is the abbreviation of Liquid Crystal Display. The structure of LCD is to place liquid crystals between two parallel glass sheets. There are many small vertical and horizontal wires between the two glass sheets. Whether to control the rod-shaped crystal molecules to change the direction and refract the light to produce the picture. The liquid crystal itself does not emit light and can only produce color changes, and a backlight is required to see the displayed content. Traditional notebook screens use cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) as the backlight, while LED backlight screens use light-emitting diodes, which is the difference between the two. The white LED is a point light source, and the CCFL tube is a bar light source. Small white LEDs use DC power supply, and can be used in series and parallel in multiple applications, but for those with a few watts or more, a suitable drive circuit must be considered to improve efficiency. The CCFL tube must be used with a “high pressure board”. There are only several LCD backlighting methods, including LED (Light Emitting Diode) and CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) or CCFT (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Tube)

2.The difference in characteristics:

Energy-saving is the most prominent feature of LED lights; it can work at high-speed switching; LED lights do not contain any heavy metal materials such as mercury, and are environmentally friendly; fast response speed; compared to other light sources, LED lights are “cleaner” .

LCD: low-voltage and micro-power consumption; small and exquisite appearance, thickness is only 6.5-8mm; passive display type, no glare, non-irritating to human eyes, and will not cause eye fatigue; large amount of display information; easy to colorize, and can be very accurate in color spectrum Recurrence; no electromagnetic radiation, safe to the human body, conducive to information confidentiality; long life.

3.The difference in Essentially:

LEDs are light-emitting diodes made of compounds containing gallium (Ga), arsenic (As), phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N), etc. LED is a type of liquid crystal display (LCD).

LCD is a liquid crystal display. The structure of LCD is to place a liquid crystal cell between two parallel glass substrates, and a TFT (thin film transistor) is set on the lower substrate glass.

4.The difference in backlight:

LED backlight: power saving (relative to LCD power saving 30%~50%), high price, high brightness and saturation.

LCD backlight: no power saving, low price, brightness up to 4000Nits.

LED advantages:

1.Self-luminous, save electricity in dark places, and consume electricity in bright places. The black areas simply don’t shine.

2.The color is more vivid than LCD.

3.itself is a light source, so there is basically no problem that the TV is getting darker and darker after using it for a long time. The quality is also better.

4.It is not a purebred liquid crystal, it is a light-emitting diode, so there will be no screen line and other failures.

5.In the face of strong light (such as sunlight), it can still display most of the picture, and you can’t see it at all with ordinary LCD.

LED disadvantages:

1.In fact, it is a reduced version of a large billboard on the road, because every pixel is a light source. So your eyes will feel uncomfortable after a long time.

2.Advanced technology and higher price.

LCD advantages:

1.Traditional LCD with proficient technology. I don’t know which generation of products are there anymore, and the design flaws are very few.

2.The color of LED is bright, and the color of LCD is softer than that. Because LCD is a liquid crystal panel + backlight.

3.Price advantage.

LCD disadvantages:

1.LCD will show the shortcomings of the brightness and darkness of the screen after a long time. LED backlighting is basically adopted now. This kind of problem is almost gone.

2.Screen lines and dead pixels are common problems in a few LCD products. If there are too many bumps and bumps, this will happen if you are out of luck.

It can be seen from this that no matter whether it is OLED, LCD, or LED, it is not perfect. As for which technology is better to choose? It still depends on personal preferences, after all, the three have their own advantages and disadvantages. Guangzhou Terminal Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. is also working hard to improve the technology, adjust and improve the various limitations of LCD, improve the brightness of OLED, and try to reduce its cost. I believe that it will not be long before a better display will be available. Together look forward!
